As a coalition, the Marrakech Pledge members recognize that a key ingredient to the development of green capital markets is providing investors with all relevant information necessary to make sound investment decisions, and are committed to work individually and collectively on defining and implementing the adequate rules, regulations and guiding principles on green investments qualification, on use of proceeds, and on the progress and third parties verification requirements and controls.
In doing so, they will consider in particular the work and recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) in relation to voluntary climate-related financial risk disclosures for use by companies in providing information to investors, lenders, insurers, and other stakeholders.
In particular, the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) framework is essential to mainstream climate risk considerations and promote capital-based green investment instruments. The ultimate aim, is that all types of investors, including mainstream investors who are mainly driven by generating financial returns, are able and encouraged to examine the corporate responsibility practices and performance of issuing companies because they have a material impact on the financial performance of their investment portfolios.
